New Delhi: Delhi Police has booked Jawaharlal Nehru University research scholar Sajid Bin Sayed for an alleged “anti-national” tweet maligning the Indian Army and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, ThePrint has learnt.
An FIR was registered against Sayed on 8 July on the basis of this tweet — a screenshot of which was given to the police: “Indian Military execute systematic genocide of Kashmiris which is devised by RSS. The BJP govt should stop their territorial greed and be ready to accept Kashmiris’ right to self determination guaranteed by UN. It’s high time to intervene in the issue by international bodies. #Kashmir”
The tweet does not appear to be on Sayed’s timeline anymore.
Sayed was booked for “provocation with an intent to cause a riot” and “provoking breach of peace” on the complaint of one Tajinder Yadav, a BJP worker.
Yadav, a resident of southwest Delhi’s Kapashera area, is the general secretary of Mehrauli district of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the BJP’s youth wing.
“He wrote an anti-national tweet against the Army and the Indian government. Through his tweet, Sayed is calling the terrorists in Kashmir as innocent and the Indian Army, which carried out brave operations to eliminate them as anti-national,” he told ThePrint over telephone.
“This is completely unacceptable, and strict action needs to be taken against this person. The police have been helpful in taking down my complaint and quickly registering a case,” he added.
The Delhi police too confirmed the development. “A complaint came to us and, as per protocol, we registered a case. It is being looked into,” a senior police officer said.
In another tweet Sayed wrote: “Kashmir is the most militarised place in the globe where human rights violations mountain every other day. The government plots ethnic cleansing in Kashmir like illegal state Zionist Israel executes in Palestine but still they couldn’t succeed as they dream”

Tweet against Indian Army, RSS
According to the FIR, which was accessed by ThePrint, Yadav in his complaint stated that he was a social activist and wanted to bring to the attention of the police “anti-national activities of a JNU student”.
“I have come across some information which is anti-national and goes against the interest of our country. The said information talks about India’s army and its soldiers in bad light implying that they are working against the nation. This has the effect of disturbing the integrity of our country and its respected army,” the FIR said.
“He is a student of JNU and also a member of a party, Sajid Bin Sayed. He on his twitter account has termed the investigation carried out by the Indian Army into acts of terrorism in Kashmir as wrong and anti-national. He has also linked these proceedings, which he termed as atrocities, with the RSS implying,” the FIR added.
“This statement is an attack on the credibility of the Indian Army, its soldiers and the RSS,” the FIR said. “This is an anti-national activity and must be dealt with a strict hand,” it said.
