New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Delhi BJP spokesperson Abhay Kumar Verma on Tuesday urged the city government to allow the use of Green Budget, or MLALAD funds, to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging points in constituencies, saying charging infrastructure is needed to support the city’s EV policy.
Raising the issue during the Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly, Verma said there were no adequate charging stations in his constituency, and the situation is no better in other places.
The Laxmi Nagar (East) MLA said limited availability of land in constituencies could pose a challenge in setting up charging infrastructure.
“To support the policy, charging infrastructure is required. I request the government to either provide a Green Budget to each MLA to set up these charging points or make changes to the SOP for MLALAD funds to allow such expenditure,” Verma said.
He said more people were coming forward to purchase electric vehicles after the introduction of the new EV policy.
The demand comes at a time when EV registrations in Delhi have ramped up.
According to data available on the government’s Vahan portal, 10,719 vehicles in the ‘Pure EV’ category were registered in July, the highest monthly figure so far in 2026.
The July figure was 1,423 higher than the 9,296 pure EVs registered in June and significantly above the 6,414 registered in July last year.
Under the Delhi government’s EV Policy 2.0, the government plans to invest around Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to promote electric mobility and reduce vehicular pollution.
