New Delhi: A doctor and water tanker contractor allegedly committed suicide early morning on Saturday in Delhi’s Neb Sarai area. A suicide note recovered from his house by the police alleges that Aam Aadmi Party Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal was responsible for his death, police officials told ThePrint.

The victim was a 52-year-old resident of Durga Vihar, who used to run a clinic in the area and was also involved in the business of supplying water with the Delhi Jal Board, since 2007.

According to the suicide note accessed by ThePrint, Prakash Jarwal, and his aides would allegedly pressurise him.

According to the handwritten note in Hindi, the deceased had allegedly given “Rs. 6 lakh from December 2019 to February 2020” adding how Jarwal and his aides continued to trouble and harass him.

The Police has registered a case under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 386 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal code against the accused.

‘Constantly threatened by the AAP MLA’

The suicide note also mentions how he was allegedly threatened by the AAP MLA to pay a hefty amount for the water tankers else the government would terminate his contract. Since he didn’t give into the demands, the person’s water tankers were removed from DJB.

According to the suicide note, Prakash Jarwal, Kapil Nagar and their “men” continously bothered him leaving him no option but to commit suicide. The person also added that his family be kept safe and protected once he is gone.

A tenant noticed the body hanging from the ceiling at around 5:15 am and immediately informed the family members of the deceased.

Police officials of the Neb Sarai thana shared that the body had been sent for postmortem to AIIMS, New Delhi. Deputy commissioner of police (south) Atul Kumar Thakar confirmed that a case had been registered. “A case of abetment of suicide, threat and extortion under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the MLA and his aides,” the DCP told ThePrint, adding that the police had also been handed over certain documents besides the suicide note by the family, that highlight the deceased was under tremendous pressure. “We are just waiting for the postmortem report and I ensure strict action will be taken against the accused,” he further added.

Despite repeated attempts, Prakash Jarwal’s phone was switched off. ThePrint was unable to get his response to the allegations against him.

Jarwal, left his job with an MNC and joined the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare, following which he fought the Delhi elections from Deoli constituency on an AAP ticket. He is a former member of the Delhi Jal Board.

Earlier, in 2014, the AAP MLA was also arrested for allegedly assaulting a junior engineer of DJB.
