New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) The Delhi government has approved the creation of nine posts of wildlife inspector through direct recruitment in the Department of Forests and Wildlife, officials said on Thursday.
Deploying dedicated inspectors would help in protecting Delhi’s biodiversity, and will eventually end wildlife vulnerabilities in our urban ecosystems, said Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
“The government is transforming environmental governance through long-overdue foundational changes. Deploying wildlife inspectors across Delhi’s field divisions is one such pivotal reform, it equips our teams to safeguard wildlife, curb poaching, and resolve conflicts proactively,” he said.
Previously, the department operated with just one sanctioned wildlife inspector post at the headquarters, leaving the four field divisions without dedicated personnel.
This severely hampered field-level enforcement, illegal activity prevention, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and biodiversity management, according to officials.
Sirsa further emphasised that this move will strengthen on-ground conservation, ensuring Delhi’s rich biodiversity thrives despite urbanisation.
“From protecting habitats to enforcing laws, these inspectors will drive real impact,” he said, adding that this will increase the department’s capacity in wildlife protection, prevention of illegal activities, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and biodiversity management across the city.
Of the nine posts, recruitment for eight will proceed through direct recruitment by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB). The recruitment rules for wildlife inspectors have been amended with the approval of the Delhi lieutenant governor and notified via gazette, officials said. PTI AHD AHD SKY SKY
