New Delhi, Apr 21 (PTI) Several foreign diplomats based in the national capital will join a tree plantation drive organised by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri on April 22 to mark Earth Day, officials said on Tuesday.

NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the programme, to be held under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will bring together members of the diplomatic community in a collective push for environmental conservation.

According to NDMC, the plantation drive will begin at 11 am at Nehru Park, with participation from foreign dignitaries, including Poland’s Counsellor Jakub Flasinski, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Mahishini Colonne, Malaysia’s High Commissioner Dato Muzafar Shah Mustafa, Portugal’s Ambassador Joao Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, Seychelles’ High Commissioner Harisoa Lalatiana Accouche, Philippines’ Deputy Head of Mission Maria Cynthia P Pelayo, and Guyana’s Counsellor Ronalda Edwards Horatio.

Officials said the initiative seeks to combine environmental responsibility with a symbolic tribute to motherhood, while also strengthening cooperation between India and partner countries on sustainability and urban ecology.

In its communication to embassies and high commissions, the NDMC said the participation of foreign missions reflects a shared commitment towards combating climate change, improving air quality and promoting greener urban spaces. PTI VBH VBH MPL MPL
