New Delhi: The death threat made to actor Shah Rukh Khan, with a demand for Rs 50 lakh, has been traced to Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, the Mumbai Police has said.
The call was made to the city’s Bandra police station Tuesday, prompting cops to register a first information report (FIR).
An extortion case has been made against an unidentified person under Sections 308(4) and 351(3)(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The probe is being handled in collaboration with the cyber police station.
A source in the Mumbai police said a team has been sent to Raipur. “The call came from a person named Faizan, who demanded Rs 50 lakh. Further investigation is on,” the source said.
This comes weeks after politician Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his office in Bandra on the day of Dussehra (12 October). Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnloi’s alleged associate Shubham Lonkar claimed responsibility, saying he had killed Siddique for his links to Khan and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
The actor has been in the cross hairs of the Bishnois from 1998 after he allegedly shot two blackbucks, an endangered species considered sacred by the community.
The Mumbai Police’s probe has also revealed the involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi’s absconding brother Anmol in the Shah Rukh Khan case. He is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), though his current location overseas is not known.
The Bishnoi gang has also claimed responsibility for shots fired in April in front of Salman Khan’s Bandra home. According to agencies, Khan is on the hit list of this syndicate as Lawrence Bishnoi claims the actor hurt feelings of the Bishnoi community.
The first threats were made in 2018 by jailed gangsters Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra over the blackbuck shooting. The latest threat call to Salman Khan was on 5 November—received at the Mumbai traffic control room—with a demand for Rs 5 crore. The caller, identifying himself from the Anmol Bishnoi gang, said: “He should go to our temple and apologise or give Rs 5 crore. If he does not do so, we will kill him, our gang is still active.” (EOM)
