Palghar, Jun 17 (PTI) Maharashtra Legislative Council poll candidate and BJP leader Prasad Lad on Friday met Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) chief and Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur ahead of the voting in biennial elections to the Upper House of the state legislature.

There was no word on what transpired in the meeting but both leaders were understood have discussed the June 20 Legislative Council polls.

The BVA, which has pockets of influence in the Vasai-Virar region adjoining Mumbai, has three MLAs and their support is being sought by parties whose candidates are in the fray.

On Thursday, NCP nominee Ram Raje Nimbalkar had met Thakur, seeking his support in the polls.

The Thakur-led political party has not yet revealed its stand on the polls, which will see 11 candidates vying for 10 vacant seats of the Council.

The opposition BJP has fielded five candidates, while the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Congress — all constituents of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) — have nominated two contestants each.

Members of the 288-strong state assembly form the electoral college for the elections where voting will be held through secret ballot.

In the June 10 Rajya Sabha polls, despite lacking in numbers the BJP had managed to win a third seat in Maharashtra by mobilizing support from independent MLAs and those from smaller parties. PTI COR RSY RSY
