Shimla, Apr 2 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday said contractors failing to complete allotted works within the stipulated time would face stringent action.

Speaking in the assembly, he said the government would consider cancelling tenders of projects that have not yet begun despite the passage of considerable time after their allotment.

Intervening in the response to a question asked by Congress MLA Kamlesh Thakur, the chief minister said that in future, only one or two works would be allotted to a single contractor.

Contractors from other states are not aware of the topography of Himachal Pradesh, and as a result, works are getting delayed, he said.

Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the government would probe delay in completion of road construction works in Dehra and Jwalamukhi, and a committee headed by PWD engineer-in-chief, chief engineer in Kangra and other officers concerned would be set up for this.

Singh informed the assembly that the firm concerned was already fined Rs 3.22 crore for the delay. PTI BPL RUK RUK
