New Delhi: In an effort to promote transparency and improve the overall performance of the coal and lignite mining industry, the Ministry of Coal has decided to extend the deadline for submitting self-evaluation for star rating of 2023-24 from 15 July to 31 July, a PIB press release stated.

The Star Rating policy aims to evaluate mines based on various factors across seven key parameters, including mining operations, environment-related parameters, adoption of technologies, and worker-related compliance and safety and security.

The Ministry of Coal is committed to promoting competitiveness among mines and recognizing their outstanding performance based on adherence to statutory regulations, adoption of advanced mining technology, and economic success.

The review will be finalized by October 31, 2024, and the grand total will be announced by the Coal Controller Organization on January 31, 2025.
