New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell Friday arrested the main accused in the murder of budding wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother Sooraj, who were shot dead in Sonepat Wednesday.
Pawan Barak, Nisha’s coach, was arrested along with an associate, Sachin Dahiya, who is believed to be among the four people present at the site of the crime, according to the statement given by the victims’ mother.
The duo was arrested from Dwarka, sources in Delhi Police confirmed to ThePrint.
The other two accused — Pawan’s wife Sujata and brother-in-law Amit — were arrested Thursday evening by police in Sonepat.
All four have been booked under IPC sections 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 354D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation), besides the Arms Act.
A senior Delhi Police officer who didn’t wish to be named said “Sachin Dahiya, 23, who belongs to Kharkhoda in Sonepat, has been previously involved in two cases of Arms act”.
“One licensed revolver has also been recovered from Pawan’s possession,”
the officer added.
Nisha had trained for three years at a wrestling academy run by Pawan on the outskirts of Halalpur village in Sonepat. The coach, 25, who has also been accused by the mother of molesting Nisha, allegedly shot the aspiring wrestler, 21, and her brother, 19, after she confronted him about his misbehaviour.
According to the alleged sequence of events, pieced together from the mother’s statement to police (accessed by ThePrint), the coach called Dahiya to the academy around 1.30 pm. He then allegedly called her mother Dhanpati to come and pick her up.
When Dhanpati arrived at the academy with her son Sooraj, 19, Nisha accused the coach of molestation. He then allegedly shot her. When Sooraj and Dhanpati tried to escape, he chased them and opened fire, the statement adds.
Dhanpati was also shot at but survived with grievous injuries.
