New Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has successfully deployed over 50,000 indigenous 4G sites across India, marking a significant achievement in the country’s push for digital connectivity. This initiative, part of the government’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) program, highlights the capabilities of Indian technology in meeting the nation’s telecom needs, a PIB press release stated.
The project was executed with leading Indian tech companies, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tejas Networks, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), and ITI Ltd. This “Poorn Swadeshi” (Completely Indigenous) approach to innovation has resulted in a robust 4G network designed, developed, and implemented entirely by Indian entities.
Over 41,000 of the 50,000 installed sites are operational as of October 29, 2024. These include 36,747 sites established under Phase IX.2 of the project and 5,000 sites funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi Fund (formerly the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF)).
The company has significantly accelerated its deployment efforts in recent months. In the last three months alone, over 25,000 new 4G sites have been activated, underscoring the impact of Swadeshi technology and BSNL’s dedication to connecting all of India. By July 2024, BSNL had activated 15,000 sites.
