Junagadh, Jul 30 (PTI) Three lions rescued following the fatal mauling of an 11-year-old boy on Girnar Hill in Gujarat’s Junagadh district earlier this month have been shifted to Shakkarbaug Zoo, officials said on Thursday.
Forensic findings confirmed two of the lions consumed the deceased victim’s remains, while the behaviour of the third lion is being observed, officials added.
Junagadh Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Akshay Joshi said the three lions were rescued after the July 11 incident in which Mayur Chauhan was attacked while climbing Girnar Hill with his family during the early hours of the morning.
“According to the investigation report, two of the three rescued lions were found to have eaten the remains of the boy. They have been caged at Shakkarbaug Zoo. The two lions will remain at Shakkarbaug Zoo. A decision on their long-term future will be taken by higher authorities,” Joshi said.
Officials are continuing to monitor the behaviour of the third lion, he added.
Meanwhile, forest officials have reported fresh lion sightings in the area and have urged pilgrims visiting Girnar Hill to remain vigilant.
They have advised visitors not to disturb or provoke lions, to travel in groups, and to immediately inform the forest department about any lion sightings.
