Ranchi, Oct 2 (PTI) The bodies of two yoga instructors from Jharkhand who were killed in a road accident in Vietnam are expected to arrive in the state on Saturday, an official said.

The bodies are expected to be brought to Kolkata by Friday night, following which they will be transported to Jharkhand by ambulance, said Sikha Lakra, team head of the Jharkhand Migration Cell under the state Labour Department.

“The bodies are expected to arrive in Jharkhand on Saturday morning,” Lakra told PTI.

Raja Kumar (24) from Ranchi and Vinay Kumar Rai (25) from Jamshedpur, who were teaching yoga at Adi Yoga Academy in Vietnam’s Da Lat city, died on September 25 after their two-wheeler collided with a car, the official said.

The families had expressed inability to bring back the bodies due to their financial condition.

Friends of the deceased and members of the Indian community in Vietnam pooled funds to meet the expenses for repatriating the bodies, family members said.

The state government will provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin after the mortal remains arrive in the state, the official said.

Raja’s father Umesh Verma, an electrician, said his son had been supporting the family by working in Vietnam.

“On September 25, we got information that my son died in an accident. He had last visited Ranchi two-three months back. We want his mortal remains to be brought back at the earliest,” Verma had told reporters on Wednesday.

Vinay’s father Ramesh Rai said the family was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his son’s body to perform the last rites.

He said Vinay’s friends and Indians in Vietnam had pooled funds to bring back the body.

Vinay had gone to Vietnam around two years ago, his father said. PTI SAN SOM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
