Kolkata, Apr 25 (PTI) BJP’s Rashbehari constituency candidate Swapan Dasgupta has a rich collection of stamps worth Rs 10 lakh and paintings valued at Rs 50 lakh, according to his affidavit filed with the Election Commission along with his nomination papers.

Dasgupta, a feted journalist, declared movable assets worth over Rs 2.53 crore, including a collection of antiques worth Rs 10 lakh.

He owns three motor vehicles, two SUVs and a sedan, and has investments in shares and mutual funds, according to his affidavit.

His immovable asset, a 50 per cent share in a Chittaranjan Park house in New Delhi, has a current market value of Rs five crore, Dasgupta stated in his affidavit.

A doctorate in Philosophy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Dasgupta is a former Rajya Sabha MP.

In 2021, when Dasgupta fought and lost from the Tarakeswar constituency on a BJP ticket, he declared his movable assets to be worth over Rs 1.99 crore.

Dasgupta has this time been nominated from the prestigious South Kolkata constituency of Rashbehari.

The Chittaranjan Park house, of which he owns 50 per cent, was then valued at Rs 2.5 crore, which has doubled in these five years, according to Dasgupta’s declaration.

He has no criminal case pending against him, Dasgupta declared in the affidavit. PTI AMR RG
