Patna, Apr 28 (PTI) The BJP took out a torchlight rally in Patna on Tuesday to protest the non-passage of amendments to the Women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha.
The procession, which began near Income Tax Golambar and culminated at Dak Bungalow crossing, had women raising slogans against opposition parties for allegedly obstructing the passage of the Constitution (131st Amendment) bill in Parliament, essential for the implementation of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023.
Addressing the gathering, state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi said that the event was “not merely a procession but a symbol of support for women’s rights and dignity”.
He alleged that opposition parties, including the Congress and RJD, had conspired to block the bill, even as the Centre pursued women’s empowerment.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with sustained efforts over the past decade to ensure women’s safety, dignity and political representation, and claimed that both the Centre and state governments remain committed to securing 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
Several women leaders, including former Bihar minister Shreyasi Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Dharmshila Gupta, along with MLAs, MLCs and office-bearers of the BJP Mahila Morcha, participated in the march. PTI SUK RG
