Pune, May 24 (PTI) A court in Pune on Wednesday acquitted former gangster Jayendra alias Bhai Thakur and three others in a case registered under the now-repealed Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act or `TADA’.

Thakur was accused of hatching a conspiracy to commit terrorist act in connection with the murder of builder Suresh Dube in October 1989.

Dube was shot dead at Nallasopara railway station on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Prosecution had alleged that the assailants were linked to Bhai Thakur’s gang which operated in the Vasai-Virar area.

The Supreme Court had upheld the conviction of six of 17 persons arrested in the Dube murder case.

The trial of Thakur, Deepak Thakur, Gajanan Patil and Bhaskar Patil under TADA on the charge of hatching a conspiracy to commit terrorist acts was transferred to the Pune court.

Additional Sessions Judge S R Navandar on Wednesday acquitted the four of the charges for lack of evidence. PTI COR KRK KRK
