Pune, Jul 30 (PTI) Rohit Tilak, great-grandson of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and president of Tilak Smarak Trust, on Thursday said the Lokmanya Tilak Award should not be dragged into politics.
He was responding to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s criticism over the Trust inviting Union Home Minister Amit Shah to present the Lokmanya Tilak Award to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Pune on August 1.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Raut, without naming anyone, said some “Punekars” should be ashamed of inviting Shah, alleging that the Union Home Minister had ordered firing of pellet guns during the protest of Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20.
“The hands of this person are full of blood, and at his hands, the award in the name of Bal Gangadhar Tilak is being given,” Raut said.
Responding to the criticism, Tilak said there was no need for such remarks as the award is above politics.
“This award is given for valuable contribution, and everyone knows Doval sir’s contribution towards national security. Presenting the award to Doval sir at the hands of Amitji is a good coincidence, as he is the home minister,” Tilak asserted. PTI SPK BNM
