Guwahati, Apr 14 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday greeted people of the state on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.
“The joyous Bohag Bihu celebrations begin from this sacred day of #GoruBihu as we pay reverence and gratitude to our cattle, the lifeline of our agrarian community,” he said in a post on X.
This tradition, deeply intertwined with Assamese life and our culture, beautifully illuminates the bond with nature and the world, Sarma said.
“Prayers for the prosperity of our fields and produce on this occasion,” he added.
Rongali or Bohag Bihu, the vibrant Assamese New Year celebration, kicks off mid-April in the first month of Assamese calendar — Bohag.
It’s a whirlwind of dance, music and feasting, with communities coming together to soak in the festive atmosphere. ‘Rongali’ is derived from ‘Rong’, meaning joy and celebration. PTI TR TR ACD
