Itanagar, Apr 10 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the debut performance of ‘Tiranga in Tawang’, a theatrical play by the Monpa Artist Forum, directed by Tsanpa Norbu at Tawang.
The production vividly depicted the historic expedition of Major Ralengnao ‘Bethuk’ Khathing, whose leadership integrated Tawang into India, culminating in the hoisting of the national Tricolour on February 14, 1951.
According to an official report on Friday, the governor praised the artists for their emotive portrayal of the courage and sacrifices of unsung heroes in securing the region. He hailed Major Khathing as a legendary son of Northeast India and underscored Arunachal’s ethos of peace, harmony, unity in diversity, and patriotism, which has shielded it from militancy.
Khandu, patronising the event, announced plans to tour the play across the state and nation, spotlighting this pivotal chapter in India’s territorial history. He referenced the Simla Conference to reaffirm Tawang’s integral status within India since time immemorial.
The programme on Thursday drew large crowds, including theatre lovers, guests, and children from Tawang town, celebrating the region’s patriotic heritage, the report added. PTI CORR RG
