Mumbai: Following a request by his lawyer, Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami was exempted from appearing before Mumbai Police on Friday, an official said.

Goswami has been now asked to remain present before the Special Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Worli Division, on October 24, he said.

Earlier, the police had asked him to appear before the executive magistrate on Friday afternoon.

He had been served a notice asking why he should not be asked to execute a bond for good behaviour in view of his alleged communal comments on news shows about the Palghar lynching and Bandra migrants gathering incidents in April.

But his lawyer on Friday requested exemption, so a new date was given, the official said.

  1. Wonder what is compelling BARC to feel “disappointed” after sending a
e mail on their survey. Republic approached SC on the premature and contradicting stand taken by the Mumbai Police chief by calling a press conference to make its point!!
How come all other channels who fight for freedom of press are silent on this issue. Is it because they are controlled by outside agencies!!!
We Indians must understand two things, we, as a Nation State have enemies within and without. The ones within are more dangerous and are remotely controlled.

  2. There is a process in our judicial system to quash arbitrary action of law enforcing authority.
When a common man with no resources are asked to suffer or to undergo such legal procedure and to prove innocence sometime in 20 or 30 years and no voice is raised by common man against this then why Arnab is given the extra constitutional right to shorten all law procedure prescribed.Let him fight and prove to common man about his voice which he pleads to be common man’s voice

  3. Who is Arnab? Whatever he is , first, if he is an Indian, than , he is not above to law of the land? His journalism is defaming, noble journalism? Which is spreading hatred amongst concerned citizens resulting irreparable damages to the development of the country, creating law and problems etc etc. Let the concerned authorities decide, who he is and are his responsibilities.

  4. No Arnab should NOT fulfill.MUMBAI POLICE DICTUM, HE IS ONLY JOURNALIST WHO IS GIVING APPROPRIATE NEWS, WHICH IS SHOWING NO DICTATORSHIP.

  5. If one has to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate, there is no harm. He he found to have behaved in a manner which is not good behavior, he should give the bond and commitment that he will not do so again. Since it is judicial process, surely he can approach the higher court for relief.
He has the money for bond and resources to get an expensive lawyer.
