Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 10 (PTI) The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police has completed a comprehensive training programme of 20 personnel for practical exposure to various aspects and challenges of seaport immigration procedures, officials said.
The five-day training, under the guidance of DGP Ravindra Singh Yadav, took place from August 31 to September 4 for strengthening the professional capabilities and operational preparedness of personnel handling immigration and foreigners-related duties.
“The programme was conducted with the support of experienced officers from the Bureau of Immigration (BoI), Chennai, with a specific focus on imparting practical and operational knowledge to police personnel involved in seaport immigration duties,” Yadav said.
He said that effective handling of immigration-related responsibilities requires not only knowledge of rules and procedures, but also practical understanding, professional competence and coordinated field-level execution.
“This place has immense potential for cruise tourism, yacht tourism and high-end charter vessels, especially in the southern group of the islands… The movement of foreign nationals and foreign vessels is expected to increase significantly. Also, a large quantity of construction materials, machinery and logistics are being imported via the sea route in the Southern Group at Nicobar, Nancowry, and Campbell Bay.
“This brings in foreign crew and foreign-flagged vessels directly to these islands, and this is the area where we can give our best service through our advanced seaport immigration operations,” the DGP said. PTI SN RBT
