Mumbai, Jul 21 (PTI) Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar on Tuesday appealed to people to observe a statewide bandh on July 23 in protest against the Centre’s education policies and the alleged police action against students and supporters during the CJP-led ongoing agitation in Delhi.
“The Union government does not want people to be educated as education expands understanding and encourages critical thinking. That is why the current regime does not want the youth to have it,” Ambedkar told reporters here.
The bandh would be observed across Maharashtra, he said, urging people to participate in it.
Ambedkar said he had not discussed the proposed bandh with any political leaders in the state.
He alleged that police used pellet guns to disperse Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters in Delhi on Monday, claiming such action was against the United Nations advisories. He further alleged that students were beaten up and that the police used brutal force against them.
Ambedkar also claimed that corruption in the Union government’s education system had come to light, and said the July 23 bandh was being organised to protest against these developments.
The CJP agitation and march towards Parliament rocked the national capital on Monday, following which demonstrations broke out in cities of Maharashtra in their support. PTI ND NP
