Lucknow, Apr 10 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP president and Union minister Pankaj Chaudhary hit back at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday, saying his allegations over irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls are “completely baseless” and an attempt to hide political failures.

Chaudhary’s remarks came hours after Yadav accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing constitutional institutions and alleged discrepancies in the voter-list revision process, following the announcement of the final electoral rolls by the state’s chief electoral officer.

In a statement issued from the state BJP headquarters, Chaudhary said whenever the SP loses the trust of people in elections, it resorts to making “unfounded allegations” against democratic institutions to evade accountability.

He asserted that constitutional institutions in the country function independently and impartially, and questioning them weakens democracy.

Referring to federal agencies, such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Income Tax Department, Chaudhary said they operate within the legal framework and act only against those facing serious charges of corruption and financial irregularities.

“Those involved in corruption come under the scanner of these agencies due to their own actions, not because of any political conspiracy,” he said.

Rejecting allegations of fake voter deletions, Chaudhary termed them “entirely baseless and fabricated”.

He asserted that the people of Uttar Pradesh would once again put their stamp of approval on development-oriented politics focussed on good governance in the 2027 Assembly polls and reject what he described as the “negative politics” of the SP, ensuring a decisive victory for the BJP. PTI CDN RC
