Chennai, Sept 21 (PTI) Veteran actress Radha filed a police complaint at the Chennai City Police Commissioner’s office on Monday alleging that her elder sister, actress Ambika, and their younger brother, Mallikarjun, attempted to defraud her of Rs 46 crore using stolen cheques.
Addressing the media after lodging the complaint, Radha stated that approximately 40 to 45 cheques belonging to her business, RR Gardens, were stolen from her residence in Valasaravakkam here.
According to Radha, a stolen cheque filled for Rs 46 crore was deposited into her sister Ambika’s bank account.
“I received an SMS alert from my bank on the 16th. Seeing the amount, I immediately contacted the bank and issued a stop payment.” She further alleged that despite her initial block, another attempt to deposit the cheque was made on the 18th.
Expressing her shock over the incident, the actress said she suspects the active involvement of her younger brother alongside her sister. “The cheques were deposited in Ambika’s name. My younger brother, Mallikarjun, is also involved in this. They have filled the cheques and kept them,” she claimed.
Radha mentioned that she had left her belongings, including the cheques, at her Valasaravakkam residence out of trust. “Whom else do we trust if not family?” she asked.
As she manages business across Mumbai and Kerala, she indicated that she often kept signed cheques for daily operations.
Clarifying the background of their family assets, Radha noted that a formal partition of properties was already completed in 2006.
“During the partition, my sister was given a large building. I was given this property, which I have been developing as RR Gardens,” she explained.
Radha confirmed that no funds were successfully withdrawn due to her prompt intervention with the bank. She stated that she has handed over all relevant details to the authorities and has not directly contacted her siblings regarding the issue.
