Dehradun, Aug 7 (PTI) Five members of a family died and one person went missing after their car plunged into a gorge on the Devprayag-Pauri road in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district on Friday, police said.
According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), a 16-year-old boy was injured in the accident, which occurred in the Devprayag area.
Upon receiving the information, Devprayag police and the SDRF rushed to the scene and initiated rescue and relief operations.
The SDRF said that a family from the Laksar area of Haridwar was travelling in a Bolero car when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to fall into a deep gorge. A total of seven people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
According to the SDRF, the bodies of five people, including a woman and a girl, were recovered from the site, while a boy named Arham, who was found injured, was sent to the hospital by local residents.
The SDRF identified the deceased as Afzal, 49, his brother Gufran, 34, Afzal’s wife Sabbu, 40, daughter Anamiya, 3, and son Shadab, 14. The injured boy, Arham, is also Afzal’s son.
Another person remains missing, and a search operation is underway. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the accident and directed officials to ensure proper and immediate medical treatment for the injured.
