New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) A 41-year-old man walked across a cluster of hanging electrical wires to escape a raging fire that broke out in a residential building here, police said on Thursday.
Trapped inside his first-floor home in outer north Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar as flames rapidly engulfed the building on April 12, Tushar Anurag (41) made a desperate bid to escape while neighbours allegedly recorded the moment on their mobile phones.
A purported video of the incident showed Tushar, visibly terrified, getting down from his balcony and inching forward on the wires while gripping loose cables for balance with flames raging behind him.
As Tushar reached the edge, a Delhi Police Head Constable, positioned on the adjacent balcony, pulled him up, bringing the tense rescue to a safe end.
“A police team rushed to the spot after receiving a PCR call. Head Constable Ankit found a man trapped on the first floor as flames engulfed the premises and he rescued him,” a police officer said.
Soon after, two fire tenders arrived and doused the blaze.
Police said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and action will be taken after receiving a detailed report. PTI MSJ BM MSJ ASD ASD
