Ahmedabad: Three days after the Air India plane crash in the city, former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani’s body was identified Sunday after a DNA match at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
The DNA match was confirmed at around 11.10 am. The family of Rupani is expected to take over the body Sunday itself, while the last rites will be held in Rajkot.
“Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel went to the residence of former CM Vijay Rupani and informed his family that his DNA matching has been done. The CM has also informed the family that the state government will support them in the last rites in Rajkot. The family members will decide when they will take over his mortal remains,” Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel told the media.
Rupani, 68, was among the passengers on Air India’s flight to London that crashed seconds after it took off 12 June.
Meanwhile, the DNA samples of 32 victims of the Air India plane crash were confirmed close to noon. Fourteen bodies have been handed over to the families of the deceased, so far.
