Agra: A middle-aged man was murdered in Agra’s Dulhara village Monday night and the perpetrators tried to conceal the killing by burning the body at an agricultural waste dump, according to the local police.

The victim, identified as Ranveer Singh, was caught in a property dispute with his brothers Nehanu and Manoj for the last few months, they said.

A case of murder was registered, and raids were carried out to arrest the perpetrators.

It is learnt that Nehanu’s wife had lodged a complaint in the police station a few days ago following which Ranveer had submitted a written complaint Monday night. That, the police said, led to an escalation of tempers resulting in the fatal attack that night itself.

The perpetrators attacked Ranveer with sticks and sharp weapons leading to his death on the spot, they said, adding that the family members burnt the body outside the village to hide and destroy evidence.

On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took the burnt remains into custody and called the forensic team.

“Information was received about the death of a person in Dulhara. Preliminary findings suggest that there was a dispute among three brothers. One of the brothers died in that dispute,” Agra police commissioner Deepak Kumar told The Print.

“According to preliminary information, the body has been burnt outside the village. Samples were collected from the spot. … Strictest action will be taken once facts come to light.”

The police commissioner added that the preliminary investigation has revealed that Manoj was not present in the village at the time of the incident. His role was being investigated separately, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Atul Sharma said that the police have sealed the site where the body was burned and handed over the samples to the forensic team. Police personnel were deployed in the village to keep the situation under control, he added.
