New Delhi: Two men who allegedly opened fire outside Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s house in Bareilly last week were killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad’s Tronica City Wednesday, the Haryana Police has confirmed in a statement.

The two have been identified as Ravindra alias Kallu, a native of Rohtak, and Arun, a resident of Sonipat, Haryana. According to sources in the police, both are active members of the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar gang, and they opened fire at the police team Wednesday.

Senior police officers said that the Delhi Police Special Cell, in a joint operation with the Special Task Forces (STFs) of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, had been pursuing the duo.

The firing had taken place around 3.45 pm on 12 September outside Patani’s house. An FIR was lodged at Bareilly’s Kotwali police station.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the state police to solve the case quickly, in line with UP’s zero-tolerance policy on crime.

Sources said Arun’s past criminal records are being checked, and Ravindra was involved in attacking a police escort guard in a bid to free another criminal called Ravi Jhagsi in December last year. Ravi and his associate Ankit were shot dead in the escape bid, while others had managed to flee.

“They were zeroed down using CCTV footage. Human and technical intelligence was also relied upon. Their crime records from other states were also checked,” a senior police officer said.

Another senior police officer said that a Glock pistol, a Zigana pistol, and several cartridges were recovered from the spot.

“Further investigation is on to identify others associated with this criminal nexus,” a source said.

After the firing incident, Goldy Brar—a Canada-based wanted fugitive, had claimed responsibility through a social media post. Brar had purportedly said that the firing was carried out over remarks made against Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya by Patani’s sister, Khushboo Patani, a former army officer.
