Aizawl, Apr 14 (PTI) The body of a 14-year-old girl was recovered from her home in Mizoram’s Kolasib district while her mother and brother were found unconscious, with police suspecting they had suffered asphyxiation due to smoke from a fire lit in their room.
Lalremsangi (35), who ran a roadside eatery, had failed to turn up at her shop as usual at 10 am on Monday, following which locals reached her rented apartment in Lungdai village, about 25 km from Aizawl, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
When repeated knocks did not elicit any response, they broke open the door to find Lalremsangi and her 11-year-old son lying unconscious, while her daughter Priskil Vanlalhriatpuii was already dead, he said. Lalremsangi and her son have been rushed to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation pointed to possible suffocation caused by smoke from a fire lit in the house, Kolsib Superintendent of Police (SP) Lalrinpuia Varte said.
Police said that while Lalremsangi was in a critical state and has been put on ventilator support, her son’s condition is reportedly stable.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma condoled the death and prayed for a fast recovery of the mother-son duo. PTI COR NSD
