India at 77: PM Modi sends Independence Day message of ‘reform, perform, transform’ to countrymen

The country has emerged as a confident nation in the last 10 years and is a critical part of global supply chains, the PM asserts

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech on India’s 77th Independence Day, said that peace is gradually returning to violence-hit Manipur. “In the last few weeks, Manipur witnessed a wave of violence. Several people lost their lives and our mothers and sisters were dishonoured. But, peace is slowly returning to the region. India stands with Manipur,” he said.

The prime minister also said that the path for solution in Manipur will be found through peace, adding that the Centre and the state govt will continue their efforts in this regard.

PM Modi further lauded the contribution of youth, saying those from Tier 2 and 3 cities also making lot of impact in various fields, including start-ups.

PM Modi also spoke about the G20 summit that is scheduled in September. “India is hosting G20 Summit. Several G20 events are being held across the country. The world is now watching India’s diversity and capabilities with great enthusiasm,” he asserted.

After the speech, the prime minister shook hands and interacted with school children standing on the ground.

Earlier, the tricolour was hoisted at the Red Fort followed by a 21-gun salute by the armed forces. The Indian Air Force (IAF) also put put up a grand show on the occasion.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, and CJI D.Y. Chandrachud attended the celebrations at the Red Fort.
