New Delhi: Vietnam’s President To Lam visited India Tuesday for a three-day state visit aimed to boost ties between two countries. This is Lam’s first state visit to India since assuming the officer of president in April 2024. The trip also marks a decade of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two nations.
On Wednesday, Lam recieved a ceremonial welcome by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. His meeting with the Modi focused on deepening cooperation across trade, technology, defence and security, and energy, and led to the signing of 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
Major pacts signed included partnership between the RBI and Vietnam’s central bank on digital payments and QR code systems. Agreements on digital technologies between both governments were also undertaken. The two countries also signed a key deal on rare earths and critical minerals to strengthen supply chain resilience. One agreement also included Vietnam’s participation in reviving Nalanda University as a premier institution.
