New Delhi: On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought to underline the role of the younger generation in shaping India’s future, as he called upon them to join in nation-building with leadership roles across the spectrum of society and the economy.
Modi linked the energy and ambitions of youngsters with his broader vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’, urging them to become active participants in India’s development journey.
“I have faith in the youth of my country, the mothers and sisters of my country, the farmers of my country, and the workers of my country that we can make this dream a reality,” he said Saturday, addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day.
India, he said, must move towards self-reliance and not remain dependent on other countries.
“We have to become self-reliant. There are many things in the world; they are cheaper, they are readily available. But that does not build our capabilities, nor does it test our capabilities,” he said.
“Therefore, we must strengthen our own capacities and protect our own interests ourselves. That is why we are moving forward with a firm resolve for ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. The hearts of Indians are connecting with initiatives like Make in India, Swadeshi, Vocal for Local,” Modi asserted.
