New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra has claimed that out of the 1,000 buses provided by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s office to ferry migrant workers in Uttar Pradesh, many are ambulances, cars, autos and scooters.

Patra Tuesday tweeted: “Priyanka Vadra’s list of so-called buses…some of those vehicles are ‘unfit’… some are ambulances, some are cars, others are tractors and scooters.”

He also provided a list of six registration numbers, which he claimed were not of buses. Patra’s tweet has been shared 16,100 times and received 53,700 likes so far.

The tweet also came after Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu and Vadra’s secretary were booked by police Tuesday for “forgery” after the state government said the list of 1,000 buses contained registration numbers of auto rickshaws, cars and trucks.

Fact check

Using Vahan, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ website, ThePrint verified all the six registration numbers shared by Patra in his tweet. While Patra was right about three of the vehicles, it was found that the rest of the three were buses.

Patra’s tweet had claimed that ‘RJ27PA9852’ was an ambulance. However, the website indicates that it is a bus.

Similarly, Patra maintained that ‘RJ40PA 0186’ was a three-wheeler. However, the records show that this particular vehicle is also a bus.

The vehicle with registration number ‘RJ40PA 0123’, which Patra said is an “AUTO RICSHA”, was also found to be a bus.

ThePrint reached out to Patra for a comment. However, calls and texts to him went unanswered.
