New Delhi: The death of four Indian soldiers, including Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, in a cross-border attack by Pakistani troops Saturday generated outrage on social media. However, several videos claiming “revenge attacks” inside Pakistani territory, which were doing the rounds, were either old or unauthenticated.
One particular video that shows a dying soldier uttering his last words to his unit went viral – first on WhatsApp and later on Twitter and Facebook with users sharing it, claiming to be the last video of Major Prafulla.

On Twitter, the video was shared and went viral after MoS for external affairs Gen. V.K. Singh (retd) posted it Tuesday. Gen Singh, a former Army chief, captioned it, ‘Young Officers are the strength of Indian Army’.
Following this, even media outlets such as Deccan Chronicle, Telangana Today and Siasat Daily shared it widely.
In reality, this video was shot in 2009. It showed CRPF assistant commandant Satwant Singh, who came under attack in the Naxal-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, not on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir where Major Prafulla and his men lost their lives. The CRPF itself had originally tweeted the video in January 2017.
The video has gone viral on social media. Among the prominent people who shared it was BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, who posted the video in a now-deleted tweet Wednesday.
