The clip being shared on social media is from Moscow’s International Military Music Festival which took place in August 2017.

Bengaluru: A video of a marching band in Moscow playing Jimmy Jimmy from Mithun Chakraborty-starrer Disco Dancer and Indian patriotic song Saare Jahaan Se Accha is being shared widely on social media claiming it is from the FIFA World Cup’s closing ceremony.

The video is being forwarded on WhatsApp as an instance of Russia paying tribute to India.

A tweet posted Tuesday by a user followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already garnered over 2,000 views.

However, the video is actually from the International Military Music Festival that took place in Moscow in August 2017.

Known as ‘Spasskaya Tower’, the parade features the best military music bands from Russia and other countries, and takes place every year at the Red Square in Moscow. In 2017, the festival took place between 25 August and 3 September.

The video being shared is of a Tri-Services Band from the Indian Armed Force performing the Bappi Lahiri song from the 1982 film, reportedly on popular demand. Released in the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1984, Disco Dancer gained immense popularity.

The armed forces band also played Saare Jahan Se Accha, and several Raj Kapoor songs.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shared the video on Facebook two weeks ago, where it was further shared over 18,000 times and watched 1.5 million times.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the Tri-Services Band was invited to participate and perform in the event. The invitation was lauded as an attempt to foster better ties between the armed forces of both the countries while being an acknowledgement of the band’s professional skills. The band comprised seven officers and 55 personnel below officer rank (PBORs).

The Indian Tri-Service Band’s performance begins at the 30-minute mark in the video. The clip being shared begins at the 43rd minute.

The FIFA World Cup closing ceremony Sunday included performances from actor and musician Will Smith, and Brazilian football star Ronaldinho. The 15-minute performance also had musicians like Nicky Jam and DJ Diplo in the line-up.
