Chandigarh: A video of school children twerking (considered a sexually provocative dance), has gone viral on social media, with misleading claims that it occurred at a “convent school” in India.

Several Indian Facebook users and Twitter accounts shared the video, with one such tweet with the video receiving over 700 retweets.

The tweet in Hindi claims: “This is the culture taught in convent schools”.

A Facebook account, named Yogesh Shukla, shared the video warning people of the possible consequences of sending their children to “convent schools”. One user even used the #377 hashtag while captioning the video and said that it was from Brazil. The post has 16 shares and over 500 views on Facebook.

A Cuban video

The video being shared by Indian social media accounts was in fact shot in Cuba in 2016. According to this report, the video was shot in central Cuban City of Camaguey, east of Havana.

A picture of school-kids wearing the same uniform, available on wikimedia commons also confirms that the children are from Cuba.

The same video had gone viral in 2016 on social media worldwide and had even then led to widespread outrage and anger.
