New Delhi: In a congratulatory tweet, the Congress party Wednesday wished the nation on Navy Day, but the image accompanying the text message was that of a US Navy ship.

The official handle of the Congress tweeted, “As we celebrate #IndianNavyDay, we honour the brave personnel who put everything aside to protect our motherland. It is their sacrifice that makes us all feel safe at home. Jai Hind.”

The tweet was sent out around 10 am and had received over 700 likes and 200 retweets. However, when some alert Twitter users called out the party for tweeting a wrong image, the Congress social media team hurriedly deleted it.

The now-deleted image shared in the tweet was that of a ‘Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)’ of the US Navy. It was commissioned in the US Navy in January this year.

This is not the first instance when the Congress has come under fire for sharing a wrong image. In March this year, the Congress had shared an edited image of a truck with a message on its bumper that said, “Kindly do not blow the horn, Modi government is sleeping.”

In October last year, the party had shared a 2009 photo to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Clean Ganga’ mission was failing.

However, it has been found that the BJP too tweeted the same picture two years ago on the same occasion.
