Bengaluru: A fake banner of the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal has been doing the rounds on social media in which he apparently hailed his own government’s efforts in installing 10 dustbins in the Kirti Nagar Industrial Area.
Analysis by SM Hoaxslayer, however, revealed that the picture is morphed.
The photo of the banner was shared by several BJP leaders including Kapil Mishra, West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh and Naveen Kumar Jindal (media-in-charge, BJP Delhi).
The banner, now found out to be fake, reads, “Badhai ho dilli — Kirti Nagar Industrial Area me dus nayein dustbin ki vyavasthaa. “(Congratulations Delhi — 10 new dustbins have been installed in Kirti Nagar Industrial Area)
An Error Level Analysis i.e. a technique used to identify if an image has been manipulated, found several inconsistencies in the image. This includes a difference in the alignment of the text and the background, a difference in the sharpness of the Delhi government’s logo, and a small part of the banner that gives away the text which was written over.
The actual banner
The photo of the banner has been doing the rounds over social media sites in the past few days including on Twitter and Facebook. BJP leaders too enclosed scathing captions when sharing the photos.
BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh tweeted in Hindi saying, “I have no words”. Naveen Kumar Jindal, his party colleague, referred to the Delhi CM as a “mahathag (scamster)” while saying that “this was the limit”.

Meanwhile, Kapil Mishra in a sardonic comment to the picture of Kejriwal in the supposed banner congratulates Shalabh Mani Tripathi, media adviser to the Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath, saying, “Photo daali toh hain poori dustbin ke dhakkan ki Shalabh bhai ji (Brother Shalabh has put the photo with the cover of a dustbin).”

Tripathi also took a potshot at Kejriwal saying, “Dustbin ki kundi, dhakkan ka bhi zikr karna thaa vigyapan mein bade bade kaam itni saadgi se kyun nipta dete hain aap bhala (You should’ve also mentioned the latch and the lid of the dustbin in the advertisement. Why do you keep things so simple?”
A Twitter user, however, tweeted a reply to Jindal and put up what is likely to be the actual banner.
The user, Siddharth Setia, in the tweet wrote that morphed photos are being used to defame the Delhi CM. The banner Setia included in the tweet reads, “Covid se jo duniya chod gaye, unkein parivar ke saath hain Dilli sarkar (Delhi government is with the families of those who have lose their lives due to Covid). (sic)”

According to Hoaxslayer, this is likely to be the original banner as the template and design are the same.
