New Delhi: India’s active cases fell below the three-lakh mark Tuesday and the test positivity rate also fell to 1.8 per cent — the lowest since June .
The number of new cases detected in the last 24 hours fell below 20,000 — the lowest since July.
Meanwhile, the number of active cases in Kerala are now the highest in the country.

India registered 19,556 new cases in the last 24 hours — the lowest since July when the number of daily infections in India first crossed the 20,000 mark.

The total active cases fell to 2,92,518 in the past 24 hours. The count dropped below the three-lakh mark for the first time since 12 July.

In the last 24 hours, 301 Covid deaths were reported across the country. This takes the total death toll in India to 1,46,111, which accounts for 8.5 per cent of the global toll so far.

Punjab’s case fatality — which is already the highest in the country — has further increased to 3.19. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 deaths and the second-highest CFR at 2.56.
Sikkim follows with a CFR of 2.22, although the state has just 360 active cases. India’s overall case fatality rate is 1.45.

In the last 24 hours, the number of tests conducted across India increased to 10,72,228. Across the 1,198 government laboratories and 1,074 private laboratories in India, a total of 16,31,70,557 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

India’s positivity rate touched a record low Tuesday. At 1.8 per cent, the positivity rate is the lowest since June when ThePrint started publishing this daily tracker. The overall test positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, has further decreased to 6.1 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 30,376 Covid-19 patients recovered across the country. So far, 96,36,487 people have recovered from the infection in India since the beginning of the pandemic.

India has reported 1,00,75,116 cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. This accounts for nearly 13 per cent of the total coronavirus cases detected worldwide. It is second only to the US.
States with highest active cases

Kerala has overtaken Maharashtra as the state with the highest number of active cases. This is significant since Maharashtra was at the top of the list since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, the active case count has dropped in Kerala. Despite 3,423 new cases detected in in the last 24 hours, the state’s active case count fell to 60,670. Kerala has registered 2,843 deaths and of these, 27 fatalities occurred in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in Maharashtra declined to 60,593 Tuesday. With 2,834 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases in the state now stands at 18,99,352, which is the highest in the country.
Maharashtra’s death toll is also the highest in the country, with 48,746 deaths. In the last 24 hours, 55 deaths were reported.

In West Bengal, the active case count dropped to 16,903 in 24 hours, while the Covid-19 death toll rose to 9,401.
The state reported 1,515 new cases and 41 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 5,38,343 cases have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
In Uttar Pradesh, daily cases dropped to 990 in the last 24 hours. This has brought the total case count in the state, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 5,75,621.
Of these, 16,822 cases are active as of Tuesday. As many as 8,212 deaths have been reported in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, with 16 deaths occurring in the last 24 hours.

The active case count for Chhattisgarh dropped to 16,060, with 1,258 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 2,68,477.
With 18 Covid deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll rose to 3,199.
