New Delhi: India reported the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases since December, with over 28,000 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.
Of these, over 17,000 cases were reported from Maharashtra alone. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 tests conducted across the country crossed the 9-lakh mark for the first time in over two months.
Daily cases

In the last 24 hours, 28,903 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported across the country. This is the highest single-day spike in new cases since 14 December. Maharashtra continues to report the highest number of new cases.
Active cases

Active cases in India continue to increase, rising to 2,34,406. They now account for nearly 2 per cent of total cases reported in India so far. The highest number of active cases is being reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Number of deaths

The number of daily deaths are also on the rise and in the last 24 hours, 188 deaths were reported across the country. As many as 1,59,044 people in India have succumbed to the virus in India since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate

Punjab continues to register the highest case fatality rate (CFR) in the country at 3.05. Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.25 while that of Sikkim is 2.18. The overall fatality rate for India stands at 1.39.
Daily tests

The number of Covid tests conducted increased to 9,69,021 in the last 24 hours. Over 22.9 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate

Despite an increase in the number of tests, the test positivity rose only slightly to 2.9 per in the last 24 hours due to the increase in the number of positive cases. The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 4.9 per cent.
Recovered cases

As many as 17,741 patients, infected with Covid, have been discharged from hospitals across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,10,45,284.
Daily vaccinations

A total of 3,50,64,536 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far, with 21,17,104 doses administered in the last 24 hours. Of these, 2,88,62,037 are first doses, while 62,02,499 have received the second doses of the vaccine.
Total cases

In India, 1,14,38,734 people been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with highest active cases

Maharashtra reported 17,864 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Active cases in the state increased to 1,40,079.
A total of 23,47,328 people have tested positive for the virus in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
With 87 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll increased to 52,996.
In Kerala, 1,970 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the last 24 hours but active cases in the state reduced to 26,428.
A total of 10,94,294 people have been infected with the virus in the state since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 4,422 people have died, with 15 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Punjab, active cases increased to 12,616 with 1,870 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours. Also, 38 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s Covid death toll to 6,137.
A total of 2,01,036 people in Punjab have tested positive for the virus so far.
Karnataka reported 1,135 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases detected in the state so far to 9,62,339. Of these, 9,447 cases are active, while 12,403 people have died in the state.
As many as six Covid-19 deaths were reported from the state in the last 24 hours.
In Tamil Nadu, active cases increased to 5,450, with 867 new cases of Covid detected in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 8,61,429.
The state reported five deaths in the last 24 hours, which takes the Covid-19 death toll to 12,556.
