Delhi reports highest number of cases in 24 hours, India’s recovery rate stands at 93%

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India tested more than 11 lakh samples for Covid-19. The widespread testing has been an attempt to bring down the country’s positivity rate, which currently stands at 3.83 per cent.

On Wednesday, the total number of active cases stood at 4,44,746. 86,42,771 patients have recovered from Covid-19 till date. The virus has claimed 1,34,699 lives since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 44,376 new cases of Covid-19. Ten states and union territories together contributed 76.51 per cent to India’s daily case load.

India’s active caseload stood at 4,44,746 Wednesday. The country’s present case load is 4.82 per cent of its total positive cases.

In the last 24 hours, 481 fatalities due to Covid-19 were reported. Ten states and UTs account for 74.22 per cent of India’s daily fatalities.

So far, 1,34,699 people have died due to Covid-19.

Punjab continued to record the highest case fatality rate in India at 3.2 per cent Wednesday. This was followed by Maharashtra at 2.6 per cent and Sikkim at 2.1 per cent.

India’s average mortality rate stood at 1.5 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 11,59,032 tests were conducted. 13,48,41,307 samples have been taken for testing since the beginning of the pandemic.

Positivity rate

India’s positivity rate increased to 3.8 per cent Wednesday, from 3.45 per cent Tuesday. The cumulative positivity rate has been falling steadily and it was recorded to be 6.84 per cent Wednesday.

86,42,771 people have recovered from Covid-19, so far. In the last 24 hours, India recorded 37,816 new recoveries. The recovery rate in the country currently stands at 93 per cent.

The total Covid-19 cases in India, as of Wednesday, stands at 92,22,216. India has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, after the US.

States with the highest active cases

At 83,221, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of active cases in India. The number of deaths reported in the state stands at 46,683. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 5,439 cases.

Kerala has recorded the second-highest number of active cases, at 64,421, and has reported 2,096 deaths, so far. It recorded 5,420 cases in the last 24 hours.

Delhi has recorded the third-highest number of active cases, at 38,501. So far, 8,621 deaths have been reported in the capital city. It has recorded 6,224 cases in the last 24 hours, which was the highest number of cases reported in a day.

Rajasthan has recorded 25,197 active cases and 2,200 deaths, so far. It reported 3,314 cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed cases in the state now stands at 2,50,482.

West Bengal has recorded 24,880 active cases and 8,121 deaths, so far. It has reported 3,545 cases since Tuesday.
