New Delhi: Delhi reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths Wednesday and as a result, India’s daily fatalities also rose over 500.
The number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours increased to over 10 lakh. Therefore, the number of daily cases detected increased as well.
Daily cases

The number of new cases detected over the last 24 hours increased to 45,576, just days after India saw a 4-month low in daily positives.
Active cases

As recoveries continue to outnumber daily cases, the total active caseload in India fell to 4,43,303 — which is 4.95 per cent of the total cases detected in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Number of deaths

The number of Covid-19 deaths in India once again rose over 500, with 585 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The spike came after Delhi reported 131 deaths in a single day, the highest in the country.
As many as 1,31,578 people in the country have died from the infection, so far.
Mortality rate

Punjab’s case fatality rate continues to be the highest in the country at 3.16. Over the last few days, the CFR in the state has been increasing.
Maharashtra — which has the highest number of deaths in the country — has the second highest CFR at 2.62.
Sikkim’s CFR is now 2.07, which is the third-highest in the country. The state has been registering a very high CFR despite reporting relatively few cases.
India’s overall case fatality rate is at 1.47 and is decreasing further.
Daily tests

The number of tests conducted increased to over 10 lakh in the last 24 hours. Across 1,158 government laboratories and 958 private laboratories in the country, 10,28,203 Covid-19 tests were carried out.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 12,85,08,389 samples have been tested in India.
Positivity rate

With an increase in the number of cases, the test positivity rate has also been increasing, although it is still very low.
On Thursday, the TPR was 4.4 percent, as opposed to 4.1 percent Wednesday.
The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, further reduced to 6.9 per cent.
Recovered cases

As many as 83,83,602 Covid patients have recovered from the infection in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 48,493 people recovered from the disease.
Total cases

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 89,58,483 people have been infected by the virus in India.
The country has the second-highest number of cases in the world, after the US.
States with the highest active cases

Maharashtra, which has the highest number of active cases in the country, saw 5,011 new cases in the last 24 hours.
As many as 17,57,520 people have tested positive for the disease since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 81,207 cases are active.
In the last 24 hours, 100 patients have died in Maharashtra, which has brought the state’s death toll to 46,202.
Kerala’s active case load is the second-highest in the country with 69,516 active cases as of Thursday.
The number of people who tested positive in the state in the last 24 hours increased to 6,419, bringing the total number of people infected in the state to 5,39,919.
As many as 1,943 Covid-19 patients in the state have died so far, with 28 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Delhi has been reporting the highest number of new cases among states with the largest active caseload.
In the last 24 hours, the new Covid cases increased to 7,486, bringing the total number of cases in the capital to 5,03,084.
Of these, 42,458 are active cases, while 7,943 people have died so far. In the last 24 hours, Delhi saw a spike in the number of deaths. As many as 131 patients died Wednesday, which is the highest number of single day deaths in the capital.
West Bengal reported 3,668 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 4,41,885. Of these, 26,296 cases are active.
The state’s death toll now stands at 7,820 with 54 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Karnataka, active cases reduced to 25,165 in the last 24 hours after 1,791 people tested positive for Covid-19. This has taken the state’s total to 8,65,931 — the second-highest in the country.
Of these, 11,578 people have died, with 21 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
