Daily Covid deaths remain below 150, over 23 lakh people vaccinated so far

New Delhi: Over 23 lakh healthcare workers across the country have now been vaccinated against Covid-19 since 16 January.

In the past 24 hours, the daily Covid deaths in India have also remained under 150. Except Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab, all other states have reported less than 10 Covid deaths.

Kerala remains a state of concern as active cases continue to rise there.

In the last 24 hours, 11,666 new cases of Covid-19 infections were reported across the country. Over 67 per cent (two-thirds) of these new cases were reported in Kerala and Maharashtra.

Active cases in India declined to 1,73,740 in the past 24 hours. This is just about 0.7 per cent of the total active cases in the world as of Thursday.

As many as 123 Covid-19 patients have lost their lives in the country in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported the highest number of fatalities, followed by Kerala.

This brings the total coronavirus death toll in India, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 1,53,847.

Although active cases in Punjab are less than 2,100, the state’s case fatality rate continues to be the highest in the country at 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR has reduced to 2.52. Even Sikkim’s fatality rate, which is the third-highest in the country, has reduced to 2.18. The overall fatality rate for India is now 1.44.

In the last 24 hours, 7,25,653 Covid-19 tests were carried out across 1,212 government laboratories and 1,148 private laboratories.

A total of 19,43,38,773 Covid tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Positivity rate

The daily test positivity rate for India has dropped to 1.6 per cent due to an increase in the testing numbers in the last 24 hours. The overall positivity of the country, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.5 per cent.

A total of 23,28,779 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in India since the vaccination drive began on 16 January. In the last 24 hours, 2,99,299 beneficiaries were inoculated across the country.

According to the health ministry, 16 people who received the vaccine have been hospitalised, including one person who developed bacterial sepsis in Chennai.

A total of nine deaths have been reported so far among those who were vaccinated, but none of these deaths have been causally linked to the vaccine.

The post-mortem report of a 23-year old individual in Odisha is still awaited.

In the last 24 hours, 14,301 Covid-19 patients were discharged from across India, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,03,73,606.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,07,01,193 people in India have been infected with Covid-19. So far, the highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

Kerala, the state with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, saw a rise in the active case count to 72,476.

In the last 24 hours, 5,659 new Covid-19 cases were reported, which has brought the total number of cases in the state to 9,05,591. With 20 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll stands at 3,663.

Maharashtra’s active cases fell to 44,624, with 2,171 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours.

The state has recorded 20,15,524 cases of Covid since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 50,894 people have died.

As many as 32 Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases dropped to 6,368. With 168 new cases of Covid reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases detected in the state now stands at 5,99,376.

As many as 8,636 people with Covid-19 have died in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, with four deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Karnataka’s active case count dropped to 6,317 and is now the fourth-highest in the country. In the last 24 hours, 428 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the state.

As many as 9,37,383 infections have been reported in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 12,207 people have died. Three Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal reported 234 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections detected from the state to 5,68,884.

The active cases in the state reduced to 5,868. Eight Covid-19 deaths were reported in the state, in the last 24 hours, which has brought the death toll to 10,139.

  1. no doubt vaccination is picking up as per data available . day by day number of people getting vaccinated are increasing .some trouble creators leaders of opposition parties are creating worries in public .it is an ordinary injection like polio .all indians must get vaccinated as soon as possible to avoid its spread to other fellow beings .
    let us all take a pledge n do the needful in interest of nation
