New Delhi: Active cases in India crossed 1.9 lakh Friday as new Covid-19 cases surged in Maharashtra. Active cases in Punjab crossed 10,069 for the first time since 10 October.
Meanwhile, the test positivity rate increased to over three per cent over the last 24 hours.
R needs to be below 1 for the pandemic to come to end.
Daily cases

Since Thursday, 23,285 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported across the country — the highest single day spike in cases since 24 December.
Active cases

Active cases in the country increased significantly to 1,97,237. The highest number of active cases is being reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Number of deaths

In the last 24 hours, 117 Covid-19 deaths were reported across the country. The overall Covid-19 death toll is now 1,58,306.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and West Bengal have recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate

The overall fatality rate is 1.40. Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) reduced to 3.10, but remained to be the highest in the country. It was followed by Maharashtra, whose CFR reduced to 2.32, and Sikkim which is at 2.18.
Daily tests

A total of 7,40,345 Covid-19 tests were conducted in 1,224 government laboratories and 1,186 private laboratories across the country. A total of 22,49,98,638 tests have been carried out since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate

With cases going up, the test positivity increased to 3.1 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5 per cent.
Recovered cases

As many as 15,157 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals across India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,09,53,303.
Daily vaccinations

A total of 2,61,64,920 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far, with 4,80,740 doses administered in the last 24 hours. Of these, 2,14,35,841 received their first doses while 47,29,079 received the second dose of the vaccine.
Total cases

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,13,08,846 people in India have been infected with Covid-19. The largest number of cases so far reported are from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with highest active cases

In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra reported 14,317 new cases. Active cases in the state increased to 1,07,307.
A total of 22,66,374 cases were reported since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 52,667 people died — 57 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
In Kerala, active cases increased to 34,082, with 2,133 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of cases detected in the state to 10,85,663.
Thirteen deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s death toll up to 4,355.
In Punjab, active cases continued to increase. As of Friday, the state had 10,069 active cases, with 1,305 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.
A total of 1,93,345 people have so far been reported as Covid positive since the beginning of the pandemic. One death was reported in the last 24 hours, increasing the state’s toll to 5,996.
Karnataka reported 783 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. As a result, active cases in the state increased to 7,820. A total of 9,57,584 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of these, 12,381 people have died, with two deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Tamil Nadu, active cases increased to 4,344, with 685 new cases of Covid detected in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 8,57,602.
The state reported five deaths in the last 24 hours, which takes the Covid-19 death toll to 12,535.
