New Delhi: One of Mumbai’s most popular selfie-points – the iconic ‘Mannat’ nameplate outside Shah Rukh Khan’s mansion – has gone missing.

The glittery nameplate was revamped with “transparent material and glass crystals” in 2022. As per some social media accounts, it’s been sent for repairs. But fans are buzzing with theories. While some are eagerly anticipating its comeback—possibly with yet another makeover—others are worried sick about its whereabouts.

“Nameplate is missing… How is this possible?” asked Instagram user @angel_sakshi, while @im_sneha was curious if it had been stolen.

Meanwhile, another user jokingly said, “Mannat bikini wala hai (Mannat is about to be sold).” Instagram user @thakur_beast reassured the comments section saying “Don’t worry kuch naya hone wala hai (something new will come instead).”

Missing nameplate saga

The conversation around it is as intense as in 2022, when eager fans swarmed the location and flooded the internet with pictures of Mannat’s “diamond” nameplate.

As popular as it became, the new nameplate couldn’t win universal approval. While some expressed support for its modern aesthetic, others remembered the older design’s simplicity. X user @SRKsSamina had dubbed the original as “forever iconic”:

“Simple, unassuming and classy, just like you @iamsrk. Not a fan of the new one to be honest. #Mannat,” the post read.

Meanwhile, another fan documented the nameplate’s evolution over the years.

A month later that year, however, the nameplate went missing. Soon, it was clarified that it had been taken down for refurbishment.

What’s next?

Originally known as Villa Vienna, Shah Rukh Khan renamed his sea-facing property Mannat after purchasing it in 2001 for Rs 13.32 crore. The 27,000-square foot bungalow, situated on Bandra’s Bandstand, has since become a pilgrimage spot for fans, who flock daily to click pictures and soak in the aura of their favourite Bollywood superstar.

Now, with the nameplate temporarily out of sight, people are eagerly discussing theories about what lies ahead: Will it retain its glittery avatar, return to its classic charm, or surprise everyone with an entirely new twist?
