Mumbai: Malaika Arora has spoken often about her fondness for South Indian cuisine. Born to a Malayali mother, Joyce Arora, the actor has a deep love for traditional dishes such as dosas, idli, fish curry, and avial. But, when in Mumbai, Arora has a clear favourite.

“Madras Cafe is my go-to spot for an authentic South Indian meal in Mumbai,” Malaika told ThePrint.

However, when she craves classic Maharashtrian food, she skips restaurants altogether and heads straight to a friend’s home.

The actor shared that her friend, fashion designer and filmmaker Vikram Phadnis’ house is her preferred destination for a homely Marathi meal.

Arora’s culinary tastes span a wide spectrum. Comfort foods like khichdi and paneer thecha top her list, both of which feature on the menu at her restaurant, Scarlett House. She also enjoys caramelised onion pasta and baked fish skillet. And, when it comes to international cuisine, Arora gravitates towards Thai food and sushi.

“There’s a little surprise coming for all of you,” she said, hinting at something exciting.

With a wink, she said that she’s not revealing much, but it’s “again the food I love, the food we all love.”

Is it a new menu or a new restaurant? Only time will tell.

Prioritising health

Despite being a self-confessed foodie, Arora never compromises on her health.

The actor recommends picking her book, It’s Easy to Be Healthy, a guide to wellness, fitness, beauty, and mindful living that emphasises consistency over extremes.

But, off the many things, Arora says there are three simple health habits she absolutely swears by.

“I eat my dinner before sunset. I wake up early and start my day with a glass of warm lemon water. And above all, I stay hydrated throughout the day. I drink plenty of water,” she said.
