New Delhi: After the Madras High Court on Friday postponed the release of superstar Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, heartbroken fans took to X to vent out their frustration and showed confidence about the movie’s “stronger comeback” to the screens.

“Whenever obstacles fill the path to stop you, breaking through them and coming forth is nothing new to you,” a Tamil magazine wrote on their X account.

The moment became more emotional for the fans as this movie reportedly marks Vijay’s last big-screen appearance. The actor is set to quit his acting career and enter politics with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Late Friday, the film’s producer, Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, issued a statement extending “sincere gratitude” to “everyone who has been waiting for our film Jana Nayagan with immense love and anticipation”.

“This has been an extremely emotional and difficult moment for everyone who has poured their heart, soul and years of hard work into this film. Above all, we firmly believe that Talapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell that he has earned through decades of love from his fans and the respect from the industry. Your patience, belief and unwavering support gives us the strength,” Narayana said in a video posted on X.

One user responded by saying, “Stay strong sir…we fans and audience will make this film super hit, whenever it comes in theatre.”

Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma took to X to slam the censor board, saying it is truly foolish to think that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is still relevant today.

“It has long outlived it’s purpose, but it’s being kept alive out of laziness to debate it’s relevance now, and it is the film industry as a whole which is mainly responsible for this,” he wrote.

“We live in a time where a 12-year old with a phone can watch a terrorist execution filmed on a GoPro, a 9-year-old can stumble upon hardcore porn, and a bored retiree can binge extremist propaganda, indulge in conspiracy theories, from anywhere in the world, uncut, uncensored, algorithmically pushed. All of it is available instantly, anonymously, and without a gatekeeper,” he added.

Some users on X said while the delay in the movie’s release was disappointing, it would only boost its popularity.

“This hurts so bad for me. Jana Nayagan case postponed to Jan 21 … unacceptable for me. But there is a hope. Surely something good will happen to us soon, but I want to say that this is gonna boost the hype of #JanaNayagan sure,” an X user wrote.

Another fan wrote: “When the wait gets longer, the impact gets bigger. Always beside you, today and every day #Thalapathy @actorvijay na. You are truly our Janangalin Nayagan. ❤️ We are coming – Delayed but not defeated!”

One user posted a roast on what TVK would be telling the NDA.

Meanwhile, several Tamil actors showed solidarity, claiming that the fraternity “stands” with him.

“Anna.. as a brother I’m standing with you as one among the millions of brothers beside you. You don’t need a date.. you are the opening. Whenever that date is.. Pongal only starts then,” Tamil actor Ravi Mohan wrote in a post on X.

Eminent Tamil music composer GV Prakash Kumar said that the movie would cross all the hurdles and create magic on screen soon. “The release date will be a festival for all the fans”.

The development soon took a political turn among the fanbase, who claimed that the CBFC had never gone to this extent to postpone a movie.

“Never before in Indian cinema has the #CBFC gone to this extent. Rather than granting any certificate  U, U/A, or A. they are now appealing against a court order itself just to stop #JanaNayagan. This isn’t censorship, this is fear,” one user wrote

Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled to hit the theatres on Friday. But just two days before the date, the producers postponed the release due to “unforeseen circumstances”. The film was recommended a ‘UA’ certification by the CBFC examining committee on the condition of certain cuts. However, the film was then referred to the Revising Committee following a complaint by a CBFC committee member who raised concerns over “objectionable” content.
