New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan has finally struck his signature pose at the Met Gala and got his fans worldwide swooning—at 4 am. The star made his first–ever appearance at the world’s most coveted fashion and art event in New York City.
Khan went for an all-black look by Sabyasachi Mukherjee: a floor-length trench coat layered over an unbuttoned shirt. This was paired with chunky jewellery—choker chains and a statement diamond-studded K-shaped pendant, representing ‘King Khan’—and a collection of rings. A tiger head cane completed the ensemble.
Actor Alia Bhatt, who shone last year at the Met Gala with her iconic Sabyasachi sari, expressed her love for Khan. “Legend,” she wrote under Khan’s Instagram post, with several fire emojis.
“The charm. The grace. The aura. Shah Rukh Khan is serving legend vibes at Met Gala 2025,” an SRK fan wrote.
Fans were left unimpressed by Sabyasachi’s vision and execution of the iconic moment. Khan’s presence at the Met Gala might have broken the Indian internet, but they wish the designer had delivered on the assignment.
“The fit, NO, SRK,YESS YESS,” wrote an Instagram user, while another even found a Delhi connect with the star’s bold statement necklaces. “Umm the K diamond chain…yes represent the Dilli in you srk,” they wrote.
“His personality is saving the clothes here quite literally,” added another. They weren’t alone.
“The biggest superstar, the biggest gala and you did this to him,” wrote a disappointed fan.
Another took a jab at the necklaces. “What in the west Delhi is this nightmare,” he wrote. Others blamed the designer. “Sabyasachi, you did him bad,” wrote one fan.
While a few were disappointed with his look, they made clear that it cannot overshadow their love for the actor. “Not what we expected but he IS KING KHAN so still hot,” wrote one user.

Malhotra next time
The theme for Met Gala 2025 is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. The accompanying dress code, ‘Tailored for You’, encourages guests to showcase personalised elegance.
“The Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style over three hundred years through the concept of dandyism,” said The Met website.
Speaking to the media at the gala, Shah Rukh Khan said that he prefers either black or white, and the outfit made him feel comfortable.

Sabyasachi said that he wanted to represent Khan’s persona and popularity at the gala, and that formed the basis of the look he created.
Khan’s Met appearance had everyone waiting with bated breath for days. When Sabyasachi shared a story on his Instagram with the words ‘bengal tiger’ along with Khan’s name, fans turned to AI to predict what the superstar’s appearance would look like.
After his appearance, some are wondering if Khan should have gone with another designer. Most suggested that Manish Malhotra would have done a better job. “He should have worn that Manish Malhotra,” wrote one user. A fan even tagged the actor and requested him to go with Malhotra next time.
