New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan is set to win his first-ever National Film Award after 33 years of his film debut. The actor will be taking home the award for Best Actor at the 71st National Film Awards for his performance in Jawan (2023).
Khan tied for the Best Actor award with Vikrant Massey, who won it for his performance in 12th Fail (2023). This is the first National award for both actors.
The news was announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on X.
The National Award honour will be a new milestone in SRK’s three-decade-long career. His filmography boasts of films like Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Dil Se (1998), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Devdas (2002), Veer Zaara (2004), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Paheli (2005), Swades (2004), Chak De India (2007), and My Name Is Khan (2010).
He made his comeback to the big screen with Pathaan after a four-year hiatus in 2023. Months after the film’s success, Jawan, directed by Atlee, was released.

Jawan’s success
Jawan had a strong worldwide box office performance, earning over Rs 1,160 crore. It became a global blockbuster, with a strong showing in overseas markets like North America and the Gulf.
In India, it also achieved significant success, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film in history at one point, and the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Jawan collected over Rs 700 crore at the Indian box office.
Over the years, Shah Rukh Khan has been felicitated at ceremonies all across the globe for his contribution to cinema, and the National Film Award for Best Actor is just another addition to his tally of his legacy in cinema.
Meanwhile, the actor is currently busy shooting for King, which is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2026.
The film marks the big screen debut of his daughter, Suhana Khan.
